ion trap quantum computer gets momentum

Updated: Sep 29, 2021

Quantum computing has the potential to change the world, and ion trapping is leading the way, although there are many different approaches. This post focus on ion trapping.

Welcome to quantum blogger. This post covers a brief description of ion trapping technology and how it can become a serious threat to Google, IBM and other superconducting universal quantum computing approach.

“Ions are as reliable qubits. They are made of atomic clock.”

A star startup company called IonQ was founded in 2015 in College Park, MD, USA. The founders include a pioneer in quantum computing, Christopher Monroe, who led the team to show the first successful quantum logic gate. He comes from Atomic Physic, previously working on the Atomic Clock project with the US Government.

Their new 32 qubit system has been available for use by their direct partners in the energy, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing sectors through a private beta in early 2021. Its cloud services were available on Amazon AWS bracket and Microsoft Azure content.

I think ionQ is one of the big players at the forefront of ion trapping startups.

In future posts, I will cover more stories. Stay tuned.
